Title: The relation between teeth and periodontal condition and the parameters of the central pressure in patients after myocardial infarction

Abstract:

Introduction Polish population is characterized by a high prevalence of people with periodontal disease. The possible involvement of Porphyromonas gingivalis in increasing overall inflammatory response which can lead to increased blood pressure is considered. The aim of the study 1. Assessment of the prevalence and severity of periodontal disease and the prevalence of infection with Porphyromonas gingivalis in patients after myocardial infarction. 2. Assessment of the relation between the condition the teeth and central and peripheral blood pressure in patients with myocardial infarction in the history. 3. Assessment of the relation between antibody titer against Porphyromonas gingivalis and central and peripheral blood pressure in patients after myocardial infarction. Study group163 persons hospitalized due to myocardial infarction. Results After adjustment for covariates patients in CPI group 4 have higher central systolic blood pressure by more than 20 mmHg while diastolic by nearly 17 mmHg in relation to the CPI 1. Linear regression model showed that increase in the number of teeth by one is associated with an increase in diastolic blood pressure, both central and peripheral by 0.3 mmHg. No significant differences in values of the central and peripheral pressure in tertile 2 and 3 of antibody titers compared to tertile 1 were found. Conclusions 1. Study group demonstrated a ; very high prevalence of periodontal disease reaching 99% anda high prevalence of high titers of antibodies against Porphyromonas gingivalis gingipains which was 70%. 2. The relation between dental health and diastolic blood pressure both peripheral and central was found. Relation between severity of periodontal disease with the parameters of both central and peripheral blood pressure was found. 3. There was no correlation between antibody titers against Porphyromonas gingivalis gingipains and parameters of the central and peripheral blood pressure.
