Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiology of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEPNET) in the city of Cracow and Cracow district.The incidence ratio of GEPNET in Cracow and Cracow district in years 2007-2011 was 2.1/100000, was similar to other European countries, however lower than in the U.S. There were no significant changes in incidence of GEPNET in Cracow and Cracow district during studied period.The most common location of GEPNET was the small intestine. NET G1, tumours diagnosed in stage I predominated. However, one third of patients were diagnosed with metastases. Non-functioning tumours predominated. Around 20% of patients had coexisting cancers.The overall five-year survival was 85%. Independent predictors of death were: high stage, presence of metastases at the time of diagnosis, place of residence in Cracow district and patient care in the centre not specialized in treatment of GEPNET.
