Tytuł: The effect of diet on parturition, postpartum period and the quality of life in women in the perinatal period

Abstrakt:

The course of pregnancy, labour and the postpartum is crucial to the health of mother and child. Proper nutrition during pregnancy determines the health of the woman and the foetus. Both excessive and insufficient body weight in pregnant women is currently a serious obstetric problem. The study attempts to evaluate the impact of diet and nutritional condition on the course of parturition, postpartum and jactation, as well as the subjective perception of the quality of life in these periods. The study included 247 women, aged between 18 and 42. The parameter indicative of an eating disorder was the value of pre-pregnancy BMI. The research method was a diagnostic survey. Presence of numerous abnormalities in dietary behaviour in the study group was indicated. The research results confirm that the pregnancy in a woman with excess body weight or obesity is fraught with greater risk of delivery by caesarean section. Mothers with malnutrition had infants with significantly lower birth weight than mothers with normal weight, excess weight and obesity, while women with excess weight and obesity had infants with significantly higher birth weight than mothers with normal weight or malnutrition prior to pregnancy. The study showed that the quality of women's lives continued to improve in subsequent stages of testing. lt was shown that women with insufficient weight prior to pregnancy had ; significantly higher quality pf life indicators compared to women with normal weight, excess weight and obesity. Midwives should, to a greater extend, disseminate knowledge of rational nutrition, especially in women of childbearing age and during pregnancy.
