Title: Evaluation of the early and late results after coronary artery bypass grafting in patients aged 70 and above with stable coronary artery disease

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the short- and long-term results of CABG in patients aged 70 and above with chronic stable CAD, including a preoperative assessment of perioperative risk. The data were collected prospectively for 102 consecutive patients aged 70 and above with stable angina, operated on in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery and Transplantology UJCM in Krakow in the years 2006-2007. TTE, ECG stress test, spirometry, MMSE were done just before CABG and again during the follow-up (FU). HRQoL was assessed during the FU visit. Intraoperative and postoperative data were gathered. FU visits were carried out at least 12 months after CABG and completed within 5,2 years. The study confirmed the correlation between in-hospital mortality predicted in EuroSCORE I and actuarial 30-day mortality, showed the significance of preoperative function of lungs, kidneys and LV mass as well as the role of postoperative complications (PC) in the early and late outcomes of CABG. There was not any correlation between the age of a patient and the prevalence of any clinical endpoints and the type or number of PC. 30-day mortality (2,94%) was similar to the data found in literature, unlike the long-term survival which was 60,1%. The 5-year cardiac event-free rate was 34,2%, the proportion of rerevascularization (PCI) was 5,7%. HRQoL was mostly influenced by ICU LOS.
