The aim of the study: The cancer patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) wereexamined in this investigation. The main aim of the study was the evaluation of thecorrelation between selected parameters describing AKI and the presence ofmortality and normalization of the kidney function.Materials and methods: Two groups of patients from hospitals and dialysis centerswere included in the retrospective investigation. The first group were the 378 casesfrom Małopolska Region reported to Regional Nephrology Consultant using theacute kidney failure report form. The second group were the 184 patients treated inInternal Disease and Nephrology Department and Dialysis Center of St. LucasHospital in Tarnow. Results: The mortality rate in the investigated groups was respectively 30% and34%. The lack of normalization of the kidney function, the cause of AKI other thanobstruction of the urinary tract, presence of more than one cause of AKI andoccurrence of oligoanuria and its duration time had impact on the deaths of patients.Dialysotherapy did not increase the mortality rate. The normalization of the kidneyfunction was observed in 30,7 and 27,5% of patients. Conclusion: Acute kidney injury is a serious complication of cancer disease, although the large number of patients can be treated effectively. Dialysotherapy is abeneficial treatment in selected cases.
