Ovarian cancer is the second cause of death from gynecologic malignacy after cervical cancer in the world In Poland, ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer among the female population. Statistics worldwide show a steady increase in the incidence of ovarian cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of treatment of ovarian cancer. For this purpose we defined the influence of age, histological type, tumor grade, extend of primary operation and FIGO stage on 5-year overall survival. We also tried to determine the correlation between the above parameters and serum marker Ca-125. The material consisted of 126 patients aged 17 to 87 years diagnosed and treated in the Department of Gynecology and Oncology UJCM for ovarian cancer between 1998 and 2006.The data obtained allowed to conclude that:- 5 year overall survival ratio is low- the most important prognostic factor is oradical cytoreductive surgery- low tumor grade, high FIGO stage, presence of ascites, high level of serum Ca-125 correlates with worse 5 year overall survival .- Ca-125 marker doesn’t depend on the histological type low concentrations of Ca- 125 correlates with the ability to perform more radical surgery.
