Tytuł: The relationship between social, economic, environmental and demographic characteristics, resources and activities of health care and mortality. Ecological analysis of the Polish 66 subregions

Abstrakt:

The aim of this study was to assess the relationships between population health and its socio-economic and demographic position, environmental pollution and resources and activities of health care. Ecological study was performed, in which the statistical information available for the Polish population of 66 subregions for the years 2006-2008 was used. For the analysis 26 variables were used describing demographics, socio – economic conditions, environmental pollution, natural resources and health care actions, and 8 factors describing health status. Results for repeated measurements were statistically analyzed based on a statistical model of Generalized Estimating Equations GEE, to take account of variables and related relationships between variables. Statistical analysis was performed using R programme version 2.11.1 using the package „gee” version 4.13. Among demographic characteristics, adverse health effects were related to the ratio of divorces. Better socio - economic position, the existence of numerous non-governmental organizations and human resources in health care were associated with lower mortality and longer life expectancies, and better housing conditions were associated with lower infant mortality. Worse working conditions were associated with the shortening of life for women and higher infant mortality. Health inequalities between the 66 sub-regions can be partly explained by the Polish differentiation of socio - economic characteristics.
