Title: The analysis of the severity of the course of craniocerebral injuries sustained under the influence of alcohol, for the age group between 9 and 18 years old

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION The injuries problem causes the need for verification of etiology and epidemiology, especially concerning CNS injuries. There is a new etiological factor in pathology of TBI of under-age people-alcohol.AIM OF THE STUDY Evaluation the severity of the course of TBI for the age group between 9-18 years old, under influence of alcohol, as well as an attempt to draw up a procedural algorithm.MATERIAL AND METHOD The patients 9-18 years old who had sustained TBI associated with the consumption of alcohol and without it, treated from XI.2007 to XII.2010. The study group 49, control group 62 patients. Clinical and control examination with the elements of the cohort study was conducted. Acceptation of the Ethics Committee of the UJCM (no° KBET/8/B/2010).RESULTS. TBI sustained under the influence of alcohol for the examined group differ from those which were sustained within the control group. The TBI within the examined group were more often accompanied by the symptoms of increasing ICP. The differences in the disposition of the degree of head and neck injuries (ISS) between the groups are statistically significant. There is a negative correlation between the assessment of the patients` condition according to the GSC and BAC.CONCLUSION TBI sustained by children aged 9-18, who had drunk alcohol have a different character than those incurred in non-alcohol group. There is a need to establish a unified procedural algorithm.
