Tytuł: Relation between depression and cardiovascular risk factors in men and women aged 45-64, permanent resident of Cracow
Abstrakt:
The ultimate aim of the research was to find out distribution of results of CES-D scale in population, frequency of depression, relation between depression and sex, age, psychological and social factors just like: marital status, education, relationshisp and relation between depression and cardiovascular risk factors just like: smoking, blood pressure, blood lipids, BMI, waist hip ratio, heart rate. The sample were 3544 men and women aged 45-64, permanent residents of Cracow. The sample was randomized according to sex, age and city district. Depression was evaluated by CES-D scale (The Center for Epidemiologie Studies Depression Scale). Cut point of CES-D scale is 16. Score of 16 and higher means depression. Prevalence of depression was 20,5% for men and 36,7% for women. Prevalence of depression was higher in women, and in participants who had elementary education, unemployed, unmarried, currently smoking. Risk of depression (CES-D >16) increased with heart rate and HDL growth and decreased with BMI in men only. Coefficient increase of heat rate by 1 standard deviation was related with increase of risk depression by 23%. Coefficient increase of HDL by 1 standard deviation was related with increase ofrisk depression by 24%. Coefficient increase of BMI by 1 standard deviation caused decline of risk depression of 28%. 1fhe results were standardized by age, education and smoking. P ; sychological and social factors were related with occurrence of depression among men and women, except age. Cardiovascular risk factors was related with depression only of men.
