Modern diagnostics and treatment of patients with Sturge-Weber Syndrome

Abstract:

The results of 10 patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome from anamnesis , neurological , psychological,radiological examination and the efficiency of anticonvulsant, facial angioma and glaucoma therapy were analyzed. In all cases facial nevus flameus was recoginzed. Glaucoma was recognized in 5, epilepsy in 9, paresis in 7 and mental deficiency in 7 cases. In EEG epileptyform activity was stated in 10 patients. The presence of intracranial calcifications were shown in roentgen examination in 8, in CT in 10 , in MRI in 9 patients. In MRI the presence of leptomeningeal hemangiomas were shown in 10 patients. In CT and MRI cortico-subcortical atrophy, choroidal plexsus enlargement, ventriculomegaly, asymmetry of hemispheres were shown. In HMRS examination were shown : in 2 cases lack of componet peaks of correct cerebral HMRS, in 6 reduction of concentration of NAA/Cr, in 5 the growth of concentration of Cho/Cr, in 7 the growth of concentration of mI/Cr, in 3 the growth of concentration of Lip/Cr, the growth of concentration of Lac/Cr in 4 cases. In facial angioma treatment cryotherapy and laserotherapy were applied. In examined patients pharmacological treatment of eplilepsy and glaucoma was successfully administred. An attention was paid on psychological assistance in case of patients with Sturge- Weber Syndrome.
