Title: Results of pelvic organ prolapse operative treatment with application of sacrospinous colpopexy

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of the study was evaluation of results of complex surgical treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) with application of sacrospinous colpopexy (SSC). Materials and methods: A group of women (n = 60) operated due to POP was included in the retrospective, nonrandomized clinical study and was divided into two subgroups: the control group (n = 30) and the study group (n = 30). Evaluation of reconstruction outcomes following corrective surgery was carried out in Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q) system according to the International Continence Society recommendations. Results: Inclusion of SSC into complex surgical treatment of POP allowed to obtain complete cure of vaginal apical defect (VAD) both in cases of uterine prolapse and vaginal vault prolapse following total hysterectomy in 25 (100%) patients in comparison to 12 (92%) patients cured of this defect under the form of uterine prolapse in the group operated without the application of SSC. Finally, taking into account all defects composing POP, a nonsignificantly higher cure rate was found in the group of patients operated due to POP without the application of SSC (19 cases, 76%) than in the group of patients operated with the application of SSC (17 cases, 65%). Conclusions: SSC is an effective surgical procedure for treatment of VAD. The availability of SSC performance from vaginal approach simul ; taneously with other POP corrective surgeries, as well as small number of complications determine the value of this method.
