Abstract:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two models of thromboprophylaxis with nadroparine in medical inpatients of Rabka-Zdroj Hospital. The study was performed as an open-label randomized trial.A total of 300 patients were randomly assigned to two groups in proportion 1:1.In the first group patients received thromboprophylaxis with nadroparine only during the period of bed immobilization, in the second group for 10 days longer. The follow-up lasted for the three months after the end of thromboprophylaxis.Proximal deep veins thrombosis of lower limbs and death were considered as endpoints.Adverse effects of nadroparine were assessed, especially major bleedings and thrombocytopenia.During the time of thromboprophylaxis there were neither deaths nor major bleedings in both groups.During the 3-month follow-up of all the 300 enrolled patients in 17 (5,6%) of them endpoints were found. Two patients suddenly died and in 15 patients the evidence of deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs was found.During the 3-month follow-up there were no major bleeedings or thrombocytopenia. In one patient mild allergic symptoms in the place of heparine iniection was observed. The study confirmed the effectiveness and safety of thromboprophylaxis with nadroparine in medical inpatients. In patients receiving thromboprophylaxis longer than during the immobilization period the en ; dpoints were observed less frequently.
