Title: Assessment of tightness of junction of the composite filling to the surface of the tooth hard tissues in SEM

Abstract:

The aims of the work was: the assessment of tightness and quality of junction in vitro of the composite fillings to the surface of the tooth hard tissues, previously prepared with the methods other than conventional, such as chemo-mechanical method with the use of Carisolv gel, hydrokinetic method with the use of erb-yag laser and kinetic method using the abrasion; comparison of these methods with the traditional method with the use of dental bur. The studies were performed with the application of the following methods: 1. Analysis of direct morphological pictures in SEM obtained from the tooth sections. 2. Analysis of the morphological pictures in SEM obtained from the surfaces of composite materials incorporated into a direct contact with hard tissues of the teeth (direct replication method). 3. Assessment of the tightness of the filling adherence with the method of dye penetration. The study enabled to evaluate the surfaces of tooth hard tissues after the preparation carried out with the use of different methods. Our analysis revealed the relationship between the structure of the tooth hard tissue and the quality of junction with the adhesive materials. The influence of etching process on the tightness of composite fillings was also noted. Not only tightness of the junction between the tooth structures and filling material was taken into consideration, but also the qualit ; y of the junction with the peri- and intra-tubular dentine, the presence of the material in the dentine tubules or in the spaces between the enamel prisms. On the base of those studies the cohesion of the junction and the type of adhesion of the both structures were noted. Etching of the enamel in all study groups appeared to be advantageous and resulted in improved tightness and cohesion of the fillings. The most favourable results were observed in the groups prepared with a laser and Carisolv gel, slightly worse results were obtained in the groups prepared with the use of a drill and sand- blasting machine. The analysis of the junction with the dentine showed that the lack of etching of the dentine seemed to have an advantageous effect in all study groups.
