Praca doktorska
This work documents the history, which was not studied ever before, of pharmacies located in 24 towns, until the year 1951, when Polish pharmacies were nationalized. It describes the history of pharmacies, according to the preliminary survey of the library holdings and archival research, memoirs of the descendants and documents remaining in their collections. The work shows not only the history of pharmacies, but it lists pharmaceutical museum pieces found on described territory. While portraying profiles of pharmacists, the course of university studies, application process for concession granting, membership in pharmaceutical organizations and the underground resistance during Word War II have been described. The emphasis have been put on social engagement of each of described pharmacists, their passions and interests, but also private life often treated anecdotally. From documents and memoirs of patients, the daily routine in pharmacies, their look, fittings and equipment as well as importance of their existence in the provinces have been described. The work is richly illustrated with portraits of described people, archival pictures of buildings and fittings of pharmacies, photographs of pharmaceutical equipment, official and trade documents.
