TY - GEN A1 - Kubik, Barbara N2 - Physical activity and proper nutrition are necessary factors in the correct physical, psychological and social development of a child. Low physical activity and improper diet can result in incorrect psychophysical development and increased risk of many diseases in adulthood. The study aims to show relations between physical activity and the physical development and nutrition of children during adolescent growth. The research was carried out in 2004-2006 among elementary and middle school pupils attending sports classes. The comparison group consisted of children attending other classes in the schools. The children were aged: 10-16 years. The subject group numbered 686 children (340 physically active: PA – 49.6%, and 346 physically inactive: PI – 50.4%), including 390 boys (56.9%) and 296 girls (43.1%). For assessment needs a questionnaire was used. In anthropometric measurements of selected somatic parameters attention was paid to nutrition level assessment and comparison of sports active and sports inactive children. The statistics were worked out with Statistica PL 6.0 and Neurosolutions for Excel. To assess the differences between the groups Mann-Whitney Test U was applied. Canonical analysis was used to study relations between two sets of variables from among 4 groups of variables. The relation between physical activity and physical development and nutrition habits of child N2 - ren and youths during adolescent growth was confirmed.
