TY - GEN A1 - Teległów, Aneta N2 - Aims: The aim of the study was to assess the influence of a single bout of maximal exercise in water at 4°C on blood rheological properties and the composition of fatty acids in erythrocyte membranes of laboratory rats. Methods: The experiment was carried out on 30 male Wistar rats, 8-weeks old. They were divided into 3 groups. Rats from the experimental groups were subjected to maximal effort (swimming) in water at 4ºC or an effort in 25°C water. After swimming blood was drawn from each animal to analyze hematological, rheological, cytological, and biochemical parameters Results: Compared to control group, the exercise in 4ºC leads to increase of RBC, Hb, Ht, MCHC, MCH, elongation index from 0,30 to 4,24Pa, with no changes in erythrocytes aggregation, blood serum viscosity, SAT, UNSAT, SAT/UNSAT, MUFA, PUFA, Σn3, Σn6. The increment of total blood cells account, total degree of aggregation, blood serum viscosity may induce the blood liquidity deterioration in 4ºC conditions, compared to animals swimming in 25ºC. However the increase of polyunsaturated acids indexes (PUFA and Σn6), which are coexisting and related to the change mentioned above, seems to be the adaptable reaction leading to improvement of blood liquidity.
