TY - GEN A1 - Wyszkowska-Kolatko, Magdalena N2 - The Centella asiatica has been identified by the WHO as one of the most important medicinal plants in the world. The aim of the study was to assess and compare the biological activity and safety of two water extracts from the Centella asiatica obtained from the greenhouse plant (CA1) and from the in vitro culture (CA2), which were differed in the concentration of asiaticosside and madecassoside (the CA1 extract contained 13 times more asiaticosside and 40 times more madecassoside). It was also assessed whether the individual biological activities of the extracts depend on the two active ingredients asiaticosside and madecassoside. The whole research were carried out through the use of selected modern alternative in vitro methods on the basis of which the effect of tested extracts and compounds on the viability and proliferation of 3 tumor cell lines (A375, WM793, HepG2) and 3 normal lines (HaCaT, BJ-5ta, C8D1A) was assessed using the MTT test and the neutral red uptake test. The glyoprotective, antioxidative and photoprotective activities were also evaluated.Independent tests have shown that test aqueous extracts from the Centella asiatica are safe in relation to normal skin cells, hepatocyte cells, have a glioprotective effect and are free from mutagenic properties. The tested extracts have a potential antipruritic, antioxidant and photoprotective effects. Greenhouse plant ext N2 - ract is additionally anti-aging. Analyzes carried out using melanoma cells made it possible to estimate the cytostatic and chemopreventive activity of extracts.
