TY - GEN A1 - Byrska, Bogumiła N2 - An increase in the number of novel psychoactive substances (NPS) appearing in Poland requires special attention because this phenomenon is characterized by very high dynamics. According to European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) data, the number of monitored NPS in Europe had increased to more than 560 by the end of 2015 70% of which appearing on the European market beetwen 2010 and 2015. It is to note that the toxicities of NPS are not known, and the effects of their activity are tested by users. This paper presents the effects of qualitative and quantitative research of psychoactive substances found in Poland beetwen 2008 and 2015 and makes reference to the potential impact of selected substances and their mixtures on the human health. In particular, their profiles and popularity were examined, the impact of legal changes on the market dynamics was analyzed, a composition analysis of NPS mixtures detected in the products tested at the Institute of Forensic Research was performed (with a graph visualization), and the characteristics of the dynamics of composition changes of equally marked products were examined (along with the content of the substances not declared on the packaging). This research allows for getting fully familiar with selected drug market behaviour in the context of the emergence of a large number of NPS.
