TY - GEN A1 - Pociecha, Krzysztof N2 - This thesis provided evidence-based knowledge for surgeons on the safest incision type over the pes anserinus during the hamstring tendon harvesting. Such information will allow to minimize the risk of the IPBSN iatrogenic injury and improve the Quality of Life of the patients. This thesis clearly showed that the most safe and beneficial for patients is oblique type of incision over the pes anserinus during the hamstring tendon harvesting, and the vertical incision should be avoided as it is associated with the highest risk of the IPBSN injury. Moreover, results of this study demonstrated that the emergence and course of the IPBSN is highly variable. Noteworthy is the fact that ultrasound assessment can be used as a fast and reliable tool for preoperative screening of the anatomical variability of this nerve in the region of pes anserinus. Moreover, a safe zone over the medial aspect of the knee was determined. The ideal incision over the pes anserinus should be made between 3.0 and 4.5 cm from the patellar ligament.
