TY - GEN A1 - Wojtas, Marta N2 - In the recent years, analysis of X-linked microsatellite markers, beside autosomal and Y-chromosomal loci, became widely used in the forensic genetics. The aim of the presented study was to carry out population analysis of twelve X-chromosomal microsatellite loci in the population sample of the southern Poland inhabitants (250 nonrelated females and males). Biostatistical analysis of obtained results and evaluation of X-STR usefulness in forensic investigations were performed as well. The tested multiplex of twelve X-linked microsatellite loci have properties indicating its usefulness in forensicgenetics investigations. These characteristics comprise in: conformity with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, high power of discrimination for females and males, high mean exclusion chance in “trios” and “duos”testing. Thus, X-STR markers are valuable tool in identification cases, kinship and paternity testing, some criminal cases, filogenetic and human migration testing. In the presented study, some new calculation adjustment method was proposed. This method takes into consideration haplotype frequencies observed in tested population and the possibility of linkage disequilibrium occurrence.
