TY - GEN A1 - Gabrowska, Elżbieta N2 - The objective of the thesis was the evaluation of nutritional habits in the hospitalized elderly patients. The assessment included the actual consumption of hospital diet, methods of diet supplementation, factors affecting the amount eaten and nutritional status. The analysis included nutritional habits of patients above 60 years of age as compared to the "preferred diet" established based on habitual diet of 50 inhabitants of old pensioners' condominiums. The same dietary analysis was applied to 50 patients of the Cracow Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, who were on a hospital diet at the time. The investigations allowed for concluding that: - there are large differences between diets recommended for the elderly and the preferred and hospital diets, - poor econom1c status of the elderly and their low awareness of the necessary supplementation of diet by vitamins and minerals cause their failure to use dietary supplements, - non-diversified diets are a cause of failure to eat complete, theoretically balanced hospital diet, - there is a need for individualized hospital menus for the elderly patients that would take into consideration food preferences of this group, - a change in the organization of meal dispatch in hospitals 1s necessary, - an establishment of an individualized system of dietary counseling on meals supplementing hospital d N2 - iets 1s necessary.
