TY - GEN A1 - Siegel, Renata N2 - The study concerns diagnostics value of spiral computed tomography with regard to maxillary canine impaction. Out of a group of 54 patients with impacted canines, 44 were selected to be scanned, based on their clinical examination and radiological assessment. The position of the impacted teeth was evaluated in vertical and horizontal sectors using panoramic radiographs and angular measurements were performed. A 10F Siemens Somatom Sensation scanner was used. Three-dimensional and multiplanar reconstructions were made. The location of the impacted teeth and their relation to the roots of the adjacent incisors were assessed. The results showed superiority of computer tomography over conventional imaging methods. Contact between the crown of the impacted canine and the root of the lateral incisor was detected in nearly 90% cases. 59.6% of the lateral incisors adjacent to the impacted canine showed root resorption, of which mare than half was severe. Contact between the impacted canine and the root of the central incisor was found in 33.3% of the cases. The root resorption occurred in 14.8% central incisors, of which 50% was evaluated as severe. Damage to the roots of lateral incisors was the most frequent in the youngest group (13-15 years), where the percentage of deep resorption with destruction of two thirds of the root was also the highest. Damage to central incisors was the m N2 - ost prevalent in the second group (16-18 years). In the case of the crown of an impacted canine overlapping anto incisor roots no conventional technique could evaluate their condition. lt is possible only with the use of computed tomography.
