The nurse is responsible for patient education. Implementation of recommendations (compliance) is important in the pre- and postoperative period. Aims of the study: Evaluation of nurses' knowledge about the surgical treatment of obesity. Rating impact of patient education on treatment outcomes. Assessment of how compliance affects the results treatment. Material and methods: A survey to assess knowledge about bariatric treatment among nursing staff. Prospective analysis of a group of patients treated surgically with due to morbid obesity. Results: Nurses declared knowledge of the principles of recognition, classification of obesity, qualification rules, methods of surgical treatment and rules of postoperative care. In a group of educated patients, a significantly better reduction of body weight was observed before the procedure and 12 months after treatment. In patients with a higher degree of implementation of the recommendations, the degree of reduction weight gain as well as improvement in the treatment of comorbidities are higher.
