Inflammation of the oral mucosa is a common complication of anticancer therapy, and oxidative stress underlies this condition. Unfortunately, an effective preventive or therapeutic agent has not been found so far.The study aimed to evaluate whether administration of obestatin after inducing ulcers in the mucous membrane of the gingiva and tongue affects the healing process of these lesions. The following parameters were monitored in the examined tissues: interleukin-1β (IL-1β) concentration, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration, and blood flow. Damage to the mucous membrane of the tongue and gingiva was induced using acetic acid. For the next 6 days, the animals received normal saline or obestatin twice daily at doses of 4, 8, or 16 nmol/g. Animals that did not have ulcers underwent a sham operation and then received normal saline or obestatin at a dose of 8 nmol/kg for 6 days. Measurements were performed for 6 consecutive days after ulcer induction. The effect of accelerating ulcer healing reached statistical significance for all doses of obestatin, but doses of 8 and 16 nmol/kg produced a significantly stronger effect.Therapeutic effects w}, abstract={ere accompanied by changes in the parameters of the mucous membrane of the gingiva and tongue: a decrease in the level of interleukin-1β, increased blood flow, reduced MPO activity, increased SOD activity, and decreased MDA concentration. Conclusion: Obestatin demonstrates therapeutic effects, alleviates the course, and accelerates the healing of ulcers in the oral mucosa. This effect is associated with the anti-inflammatory action of obestatin, leading to a reduction in IL- 1β concentration, decreased MPO activity, and increased SOD activity in the oral mucosa.}, title={The therapeutic effect of obestatin on the healing of experimental oral mucosa ulcerations}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={obestatin, oral mucositis, oxidative stress, interleukin 1β, myeloperoxidase, malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase}, }
