The analyses comprised the severity of cognitive disorders and its relation to the presence of psychopathological symptoms and having sheltered employment. In the first study a battery of tests was used to compare cognitive functioning in three groups: people suffering from schizophrenia and participating in occupational therapy workshops, people suffering from schizophrenia and working in sheltered employment, and healthy controls. The second study addressed the interrelations between the results in various areas of cognition, their relationship with psychopathological symptoms and showed which of the examined measures of cognition and symptoms significantly differentiate the working and non-working clinical groups. The third one of the attached papers investigated the importance of cognition and the severity of symptoms for the perception of humor in schizophrenia. The results of the above studies indicate that psychopathological symptoms and cognitive deficits are independently related to social functioning in schizophrenia. In this context, they emphasize the importance of communication skills, in particular the understanding of figurative language, as well as the importance of disorganization syndrome both in terms of employment and humor perception.}, title={Selected aspects of cognitive functioning in individuals suffering from schizophrenia and their associations with indicators of the course and severity of illness}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={schizophrenia, cognition, communication, humor, disorganization}, }
