Reduced blood flow and hypoxia of the brain can lead to severe neurological and cognitive consequences as well as epilepsy. Currently, the only standard method of treating HIE is the introduction of moderate hypothermia. However, this therapy is still ineffective for a wide range of patients. Novel treatments for HIE include autologous mesenchymal stem cells’ (MSCs) transplantations. In clinical trials, the use of MSCs resulted in a neurological and cognitive improvement, and reduced the number of epileptic seizures. The main research problem of doctoral thesis was an attempt to explain the mechanism of action of MSCs on regenerative processes in HIE. Additionally, the research work aimed to identify new and potential therapeutic approaches that can be used for the most effective treatment. As part of a doctoral dissertation a mice model of HIE that can be used to study new therapeutic approaches was established. Moreover, the obtained results provide important insight into the understanding of the use of MSCs in neurological diseases. Designated additional therapeutic approaches, given in an appropriate combination, can be used to effectively treat HIE.}, title={Application of cell therapy in the treatment of epilepsy associated with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in an animal model}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, cell therapies}, }
