Patients were assigned to 3 groups: INT-1 (single training), INT-2 (single training and repeated telephone intervention) and UC (usual care). The control assessment was conducted after 12 months. Knowledge about CVD risk factors in patients without CVD improved in the INT-1 and INT-2 groups while in CAD patients only in the INT-2 group. A single training compared to UC increased the recognising of the symptoms of myocardial infarction and stroke only in CAD patients. In CAD patients, the number of non-smokers and subjects achieving recommended physical activity increased after a single training whereas in the INT-2 group additional improvement in implementation recommendation regarding physical activity and nutrition were noted.
