The ophthalmological examination, VEP examination, the MRI and the psychological tests were conducted in children. For the study purpose, some data from the patients’ medical history were used, e.g. sex, birth weight, gestational age, APGAR score, intraventricular haemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia , cerebral palsy, a period of oxygen therapy.Results and preliminary conclusions: It follows from our observations that the most important factor affecting the ophthalmological assessment is retinopathy of prematurity that requires laser coagulation. The obtained results may indicate that in some preterm infants with ROP treated with laser coagulation, conduction in the visual pathway is damaged. Besides, with the analysis of the VEP test results in individual infant groups, it can be concluded that the changes in the record are not always linked with retinopathy and the conduced laser coagulation. Given this, one can hypothesise that the changes in the VEP record may result from the immature nervous system in preterm infants.
