The study included 150 nurses and midwives who are professionally active in Cracow. The study used a questionnaire containing questions concerning the sense of satisfaction with the current professional situation, the specifics of work, stress at work, playing specific roles, lifestyle and health assessment. The respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics were also identified. When analysing the impact of the balance between effort and reward (ERI), the impact of professional satisfaction on the quality of life (SF-20) of nurses and midwives, it was observed that a higher score on the professional satisfaction scale was associated with a higher quality of life (p <0.05). Higher education was associated with a higher quality of life of the respondents (p<0.05). A better self-assessment of health compared to the health status three years back and no need to receive specialist treatment were also associated with a higher self-assessment of quality of life (p<0.05). The study findings confirmed the assumed hypothesis about the relationship of professional satisfaction with the quality of life of nurses and midwives.
