 abstract={The aim of this study was evaluation of the aesthetic result of PDR brachytherapy as a boost in women subjected to breast conserving therapy (BCT) for breast cancer. Two groups of patients operated by the same team of surgeons between 2002-2003 in the Department of Plastic Surgery Medical University of Gdańsk were analyzed. Group I consisted of the patients subjected to PDR brachytherapy as a boost at a dose of 15 Gy on the first day after surgery followed by standard whole breast radiotherapy (50 Gy). Group II patients were treated with 15 Gy breast radiotherapy as a boost at the end of the whole breast radiotherapy cycle. Cosmetic effect was evaluated subjectively on the Harvard scale and objectively using distance measurement. It was found that the aesthetic effect of BCT is not related to the type of radiation therapy used. However, it plays an important role in the assessment of the breast cancer treatment outcomes and should be evaluated routinely using Harvard scale and pre- and postoperative photographic documentation.},
