Over the last few years, there has been an observable increase in the number of young people experimenting with psychoactive drugs.The aim: Analysis and evaluation of psychoactive substance use among secondary school students and undergraduates in Nowy Sącz.Material and methods: The study involved 1401 third and fourth grade students of secondary schools, as well as 1265 first and second year undergraduate students from Nowy Sącz. The tool for the analysis was an anonymous self-completion questionnaire which was to reflect the patterns of psychoactive substance use.Results: Over 95 per cent of the surveyed admitted having contact with alcohol. Marijuana turned out to be the most popular illicit drug. The respondents considered middle schools and secondary schools the place of initiation into licit and illicit drug use. Religion, ethics and morality, fear of health problems and satisfaction with life were the main factors preventing from psychoactive substance use. Over 96 per cent of the surveyed believed that school/university should undertake actions aimed at drug prevention.Conclusions: The use of licit and illicit psychoactive substances among youths from Nowy Sącz is a serious problem which requires continuous monitoring, as well as designing and introducing appropriate prophylactic programmes.}, title={Evaluation of psychoactive substance use among secondary school students and undergraduates in Nowy Sącz}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={undergraduates, recommendations, secondary school students, prevention, psychoactive substance}, }
