 abstract={The aim of the thesis is to present the scope of determinants influencing efficiency of the hospitals in Poland as well as developing basic recommendations focused at improving the situation. In the empirical part, financial and technical efficiency of 18 general hospitals from Malopolska region in the years 2007–2009 was assessed. In addition to quantitative efficiency analysis based on the factor analysis, qualitative study was also conducted. In-depth interviews were carried out with the hospitals directors and owners representatives, focused on the analysis of the main factors influencing hospital sector efficiency on both micro-, and macro-level. The thesis consist of five chapters. First three have theoretical character, fourth presents outcomes of the empirical research, whilst the final one is a compilation of both theoretical knowledge and practice experiences aimed at development of recommendations.},
