Until now this theme has never been treated as a scientific problem by the Polish historians of pharmacy. Four Medieval Latin treatises have been extensively analyzed here: Walafrid Strabus Hortulus (9th century), Marbode of Rennes De lapidibus (11th century), Macer Floridus De herbarum virtutibus (12th century), Regimen Sanitatis Salernitanum (12th century). Since Antiquity a poetic form was employed to transmit the scientific contents. All above mentioned treatises enjoyed enormous popularity among the people of the Middle Ages. Equally, during the next centuries they have been regarded as a kind of the handbooks of pharmacy and medicine addressed to no-specialists. For that reason the numerous editions of them were made. These poems constitute an important source of medieval pharmacological knowledge. The chapters of the dissertation deliver an analysis of the poems contain as well as the identification of the medicines on account of the medieval, notably different from a present-day, medical and botanical terminology. In addition the types of poems, their tradition, the question of their authorship, their dating and their translations into vernacular languages were in detail discussed.}, title={Medieval didactic poems as one of the forms of an old medical-pharmaceutical literature}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={didactic poetry, middle ages, history of pharmacy}, }
