The case-control study has been carried out between January 1997 and May 1999 in Krakow. In total, 180 incident cases of colorectal cancer confirmed by histopathology were enrolled. The equal number of controls was chosen, matched to cases by age (+/- 5 years) and gender. Trained interviewers who used the standardized questionnaire interviewed both cases and controls. The computer program was used to calculate nutrient intakes. All statistical analyses were performed in BMDP packet. Our results suggest that antioxidant vitamins A, C, E can show protective effect on occurrence of colorectal cancer in that study population. The highest attributable risk was observed for intake of carotene (below 16,6 pg/10 000 kcal/day) - 48,4%, vitamin C (below 495,0 mg/10 000 kcal/day) - 44,4% and for vitamin E (below 52,13 mg/10 000 kcal/day) - 26,5%. We have not confirmed the carcinogenic effect of high intake of fats.}, title={The role of diet in the etiology of colorectal cancer}, type={Praca doktorska}, keywords={fats, diet, antioxidant, vitamins, colorectal cancer}, }
