We established the range of concentrations at baseline and during aspirin challenge. The eicosanoids in the EBC together with the LTE4 in the urine were measured in all groups. In addition the 9allßPGF2 was measured in the blood of the adult patients and the nitric oxide (FeNO) was measured in children. In contrast to the previously studies we employed the following methods: a common protocol for measurments EBC (Kraków, Zürich), the analytical methods that were more sensitive and specific, the analysis of mediator profiles. This study suggests it is useful to employ GC/MS and RIA in the analysis of eicosanoids in the EBC. A measurement of cys-LTs in the EBC has a diagnostic value in asthmatic children, cys-LTs levels were elevated in asthmatic children despite the treatment with inhaled corticosteroids and atopy. Any of the eicosanoids in the EBC does not discriminate adult patients with asthma from the healthy. Measurement of the LTE4 levels in urine has the best diagnostic value in AIA. Low levels of 9a11ßPGF2 in the EBC in AIA patients warrants further investigation.
