The other aim was to assess correlation between quality of life, sociodemographic factors, course of disease and individual traits. The two groups of subjects described in this study were : 1) patients with diagnosed recurrent depressive disorder ( 40 persons) 2) patients with diagnosed bi polar affective disorders ( 40 persons). Patients were asked to fill in the following questionnaires: • SF-36 Health Survey • Quality of life in Depression Scale • Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale • Author's catamnestic questionnaire Results of the study suggest that patients with bi polar affective disease experience higher quality of life than patients with depressive disorders ( generał assessment of health, mood, needs and values). Analysis of sociodemographic conditions in relation to the quality of life has shown that the highest quality of life is experienced by the following patients: single, living with generational family, making living. Gender and educational level do not influence the observed quality of life.
