By sanitary actions the author means performing immediate life\-saving procedures, evacuating the wounded from the battlefield and transporting them to a safe location. By contrast, medical help was administered by doctors and qualified nurses in hospitals, underground hospitals \(set up on the outskirts of towns\), field hospitals, aid stations, outpatient clinics and convalescent hospitals. Therefore, the role of these facilities has been discussed in the dissertation. The problem of training medical personnel in the Kielce and Częstochowa branches of the secret University of Western Lands has also been touched upon. Some mention has been made of the medical\-sanitary activities of female pharmacists and unorganized and unqualified women. Much attention has been given to the actions of various social and charity organizations and societies\: ZHP \(Polish Scouting and Guiding Association\), PCK \(Polish Red Cross\), Caritas \(charitable organization\), RGO \(Central Welfare Council\), as well as smaller local organizations formed by social activists, local intelligentsia, landowners, clergy, entrepreneurs, religious communities and religious orders."]
