Search for: [Abstract = "The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of selenium supplementation \(as sodium selenate \(IV\), 100 μg\/day\) for 6 months in women with newly diagnosed Hashimoto's disease with euthyroid or subclinical hypothyroidism on levels of antibodies anti\-TPO and selected parameters of thyroid function, selenium and antioxidant status, and immunological parameters. The group of 29 women were included in the study. After selenium supplementation, following significant changes were noted\: level of anti\-TPO \(IU\/mL\) decreased from 272,2 \(117,5\; 630,9\)\* to 248,5±155,3\; concentration of Se \(μg\/L\) and SELENOP \(mg\/L\) increased respectively from 75,0±11,1 to 87,7±6,3 and from 3,73±0,49 to 4,40±0,61\; among immunological parameters, level of INF\-γ \(pg\/mL\) decreased from 6,25±4,98 to 4,47±2,02 while IL\-1β \(pg\/mL\) increased from 8,39±6,62 to 11,46 \(5,12, 25,62\). It was also shown that median iodine concentration in the urine of the patients was within the normal range. Daily intake of vitamins such as\: D, B9, E, and minerals such as\: potassium and calcium were too low. According to patients, selenium supplementation had a positive effect both on physical and mental health."]
