Search for: [Abstract = "The main objective of this study was to investigate the potential cor\-relation between the polymorphism of genes encoding paraoxonases \(PON1 – L55M and PON2 – S311C\) or angiotensin convertase \(ACE – I\/D\), and the presence and severity of atherosclerotic lesions in cor\-onary angiographic image in patients with ischaemic heart disease. The study included 367 patients with stable ischaemic heart disease. The control group included 660 subjects who were not diagnosed with ischaemic heart disease. A relationship between the presence of atherosclerotic lesions in the coronary angiogram and the polymorphism in the gene coding for paraoxonase PON 2 \(PON 311\) was documented in this distribution. This is a relation between PON 311 gene polymorphism and the pres\-ence of type C lesions in coronary arteries independently of the extent of artery narrowing. The demonstrated relation results from the impact of a single PON 311 gene polymorphism and remains statistically significant after tak\-ing into account in the analysis the risk factors for atherosclerosis de\-velopment. In case of atherosclerotic lesions confirmed by angiography, no rela\-tionship was found between the degree of severity, localization and number of arteries with a significant narrowing and the polymorphisms in genes coding for paraoxonases and angiotensin\-converting enzymes.
