In order to assess the progress in the treatment of retinoblastoma I performed the analysis of the type and quantity of the introduced local treatment, survival, eyeball sparing, histopathological findings, effectiveness of chemoreduction, visual acuity as well as a number of metastases in both groups of children treated with or without chemoreduction. Better treatment results were revealed in the group treated with chemoreduction. The percentage of survived eyeballs was higher and amounted to 36.3% as compared to 28% of survived eyes in the group of children treated without chemoreduction. In the group after chemoreduction a lower number of deaths was noted \(only 1 death, i.e., 1.5%\) as compared to the group treated without chemoreduction where 13 children died \(9,4%\). Similarly, fewer metastases were observed in the group treated with chemoreduction. Beneficial effects of chemoreduction were also confirmed by the results of histopathological examinations. Chemotherapy introduced before the decision about the local treatment also caused the beneficial local effect in form of the reduction of the tumour size. The analysis of visual acuity findings showed comparable results in both groups. In conclusio"]
