In Ophthalmology Department of Jagiellonian University in the period from September 1968 to March 1996 60Co plaque brachytherapy was employed in 417 patients, inclusive of 229males and 188 females, aged 19\-84 years. In 288 \(70%\) patients, medium\-sized tumours were found, in 107 \(25%\) patients \- large, and in 22 \(5%\) \- small. In 289 \(70%\) cases melanoma tumours were dome\-shaped, in 127 \(30%\) mushroom\-shaped, and in one case fiat. In 174 \(41 %\) patients, tumours were medium\-pigmented, in 145 \(35%\) \- intensive, and in 98 \(24%\) \- amelanotic. Localization posterior to the equator was observed in 87 melanoma tumours, in the equator area 139, anterior to the equator in 137, and 57 tumours involved the ciliary body. In relation to clock hours, the most frequently observed localization of melanoma was the temporal quadrant. Survival rate in all 417 patients was as fellows\: 5\-year 0.8009, 10\-year 0.6108, and 15\-year 0.4500. Among patients who died of choroidal melanoma, the survival rate was 0.8153, 0.6599, 0.5023, respectively, and 20\-year was 0.4282. The therapy gave positive local results in 257 patients, inclusive of stabilization of the disease in 57. One of the negative local results was relapse of the neoplastic process observed in 26 \(6.2%\)"]
