Search for: [Abstract = "Some similarities between salivary glands and thyroid cause that autoimmune thyroid disease \(ATD\) very often co\-exist with autoimmune sialadenitis. Also Sjögrena syndrome is frequently accompanied by ATD. It is known that salivary glands actively absorb iodine and since the beginning of the treatment by radioactive iodine its destructive effect on the glands has been observed. The aim of this dissertation was to evaluate the influence of treating hyperthyrosis with low doses of radioactive iodine and the influence of autoimmune thyroid disease on salivary glands function, assessed by semiquatitive scintigraphy. The research was conduced on the group of 100 participants, 80 of which ware the patients treated in the outpatient Department of the Endocrinology Clinic CM UJ in Cracow in 2004\-2006 because of ATD or hyperthyosis caused by toxic goitre. The patients were divided into 4 20\-person groups according to diagnosis. The first group consist of the patients with Graves disease treated with 131J, the second group were the patients treated with 131J for the toxic goiture, the third group\- the patients with Graves disease treated with thyreostatics, and the fourth group were the patients with Hashimoto disease. The fifth was the control group of the healthy volunteers chosen from the clinic staff. All participants were examined and accordingly qualified to one of the group listed"]
