The study population was recruited during the continuation of European Project on Genes in Hypertension \(EPOGH\). The study population consisted of 290 subjects\: 141 parents and 115 their offspring mean age 28 years. The standardized questionnaire, conventional blood pressure measurements, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, complete echocardiographic evaluation, ultrasound measurements of intima – media thickness and pulse wave analysis were performed. Normotensive adult offspring of hypertensive parents have higher diastolic blood pressure on conventional measurements as well as on ambulatory monitoring than normotensive adult offspring of normotensive parents. Significant differences in conventional parameters of left ventricular diastolic function was observed\: lower E\/A ratio and longer isovolumetric relaxation time independently of blood pressure levels. Offspring of hypertensive parents had higher peripheral and central augmentation index. These results may indicate the potential role of hereditary factors in the development of diastolic dysfunction and large arteries dysfunction in hypertension."]
