Dietary bioactives \(such as quercetin\) can exert various effecton cellular function. In recent years, there has been growing interest in therelationship between increased adipose tissue mass and a variety of physiologicaland pathological processes in adipocytes. The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of metabolic stressfactors \(exposure to selected free fatty acids and high level of glucose\) andquercetin, on mitochondrial function of human preadipocytes, as well as on towardsmature adipocytes. As an experimental model cell line Chub\-S7 was selected. We havedemonstrated, that saturated fatty acids \(PA and hexsacosanoic acid\) decreasedintracellular ATP content, increased ROS generation and increased preadipocytedifferentiation, similarly such as AA and EPA. TTA promoted preadipocytesapoptosis. The high level of glucose stimulated ROS generation. We confirmedantioxidant properties of quercetin and showed that this flavonoid inhibition ofpreadipocyte differentiation.Data presented here shows that selected nutrients, such as free fatty acids, high level of glucose and quercetin influence on mitochondrial function anddifferentiation of human preadipocytes. These results are interesting because theseprocesses may be the target pathways for treating obesity."]
