They were advertised as legal and safe alternative to conventional drugs. The paper presents the results of identification for more than 1300 products. The prepared samples were identified by means of GC\-EI\-MS. The analysis revealed the following substances in the investigated products\: piperazine derivatives \(including BZP, MPMP, TFMPP\), cathinone derivatives \(including\: 3\-MMC, buthylone, pentedrone\), pyrovalerone derivatives \(MDPV\), synthetic cannabinoids \(such as AM\-2201, UR\-144, JWH\-073, JWH\-081\). The separate subject of the study was complex analysis of 9 cases with using GC\-EI\-MS and LC\-ESI\-MS\/MS methods. Three studied cases concerned people under the influence of NPS\: 2 people under the influence of derivative of cathinone \(α\-PVP\) and one, who was under the influence of synthetic cannabinoid – AM\-2201. Six of the cases were associated with fatal poisonings\: 4 concerned overdose of cathinones \(buthylone, mephedrone, 4\-MEC, α\-PVP\) and 2 were related to the accident on the road \(α\-PVP\). The last part of the study was related to behavioral studies on animals. Subject concerned two synthetic cannabinoids \- JWH\-081 and UR\-144, which were selected on the base of analysis of “legal highs” products. The experiments demonstrated that these synthetic cannabinoid substituted for Δ9\-THC. The subjective effects of JWH\-081 and UR\-144 corresponds to their affinity for the CB1 receptors."]
