Search for: [Abstract = "Introduction\: The histological studies of the atherosclerotic plaque \(AP\) have revealed that at least 20% of inflammatory cells within unstable plaque contain receptors for interleukin 2 \(IL\-2\)\; these receptors can be identified with scintigraphy with radiolabeled IL\-2. Material and methods\: 38 ESRD patients were included to the study. All of them underwent scintigraphy with the use of IL\-2 labeled iodine\-123 \(10 patients with the highest cardiovascular risk \(aged 62,4 ± 10,4\)\) or technetium\-99m \(28 patients, aged 55,2 \+\/\- 9,6\). Additionally CCA\-IMT and concentrations of some biochemical factors were measured. Target\/non\-target ratio of IL\-2 uptake with CCA\-IMT and concentration of measured agents were compared. Results\: Increased 123I\-IL\-2 uptake in 16\/16 \(100%\) carotid AP previously revealed by ultrasounds were detected. Mean target\/non\-target ratio \(T\/nT\) was 3,15 ± 0,54 \(range 2,0 – 3,6\). Difference between T\/nT ratio in the group of patients with and without cardiovascular event during 36 months observation period was observed \(3,45 \+\/\- 0,22 vs 2,91 \+\/\- 0,54, p = 0,046\). Mean T\/nT ratio of 99mTcIL\-2 uptake in AP was 2,34 ± 0,70 \(range 1,23– 3,63\). Significant dependence between scintigraphy results and hemoglobin \(R = \- 0,21, p = 0,02\), homocysteine \(R = 0,22, p = 0,037\), apo B \(R = 31, p = 0,008\), apoB\/apoA\-I ratio \(R= 0,29, p= 0,012\) and triglycerides concentration \(R = 0,26, p = 0,021\) were detected. Conclusions\: Scintigraphy with the use of labeled IL\-2 enables visualization of inflamed atherosclerotic \(vulnerable\) plaque within common carotid arteries in ESRD patients and may be a tool for short\-term evaluation of cardiovascular risk."]
