The aim of the study was to determine whether MPV and single nucleotide polymorphisms \(SNPs\) associated with MPV in genome\-wide association studies \(GWAS\) can be prognostic markers in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data was collected in 577 patients with first\-ever ischemic stroke. Genotyping of three SNPs \(rs342293, rs1354034 and rs7961894\) was performed in all subjects using a real\-time polymerase chain reaction allelic discrimination TaqMan 7900 assay. Among three tested SNPs only rs7961894 was independently associated with MPV in patients with acute ischemic stroke and allele T of rs7961894 remained an independent marker of a lower one\-year mortality after ischemic stroke \(HR=0,27\; 95%CI\:0,09\-0,77\; p=0,014\). MPV was not associated with one\-year mortality in patients with ischemic stroke, however MPV ≥11,6fl was independently associated with a worse stroke severity based on National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale \(NIHSS\) score on admission in the studied population \(OR=1,68\; 95%CI\:1,05\-2,68\; p=0,031\). MPV and rs7961894 were not associated with functional independence assessed by modified Rankin Scale or activity of daily living assessed by Barthel Index on discharge in the studied population."]
