Search for: [Abstract = "Carcinomas of the maxillary sinus and naso\-ethmoid complex are rare but their annual incidence trends to increase constantly. The aim of this work was to evaluate the outcomes of treatment of patients with cancer in this localization in the Department of Maxillo\-Facial Surgery in Cracow from 1997 to 2006. 3 years overall survival rate in the analysed group of 54 patients was 53,7%, 5 years OSr was 42,59% and a median 34 months. Disease free survival time was 37,6 months. Statistical analysis proved that histological type of cancer does not influence the outcomes of treatment and that cancer localization in the sinus infrastructure has superior outcomes than in the suprastructure. Data analysis showed that higher clinical cancer stage causes shorter OS and DFSt and that histological radicality is significantly related with OS, DFS and presence of local recurrence. Failure in controlling local desease improves the risk of developement of distant metastases and death due to the cancer. It was also shown that patients subjected to adjuvant radiotherapy had longer DFSt. The average quality of life reached 64,22 on 100\-point scale. The best scores were identified on the social functioning scale and the lowest on the emotional one. The need of using painkillers, dryness of the oral cavity and problems with opening of the mouth were indicated as the basic problems."]
