Search for: [Abstract = "Brain tumors in children are rare compared with other childhood diseases. Virtually every pediatrician working in county hospital gave diagnosis of brain tumor, moreover half of them met with a case of posterior cranial tumor. Analysis of the questionnaires revealed the difficulties in interpreting the fundamental, often path gnomonic neurological symptoms of brain tumors. The analysis of the cases of posterior cranial cavity tumors with a special focus on astrocytomas treated in Department of Neurosurgery in University Children's Hospital in Krakow showed that duration of preclinical period is 80 days average, while for the control group is 59 days average. Research confirms the existence of tumors, histopathologically astrocytomas of special kind. Another pivotal fact is a very short preclinical period in all cases where treatment was unsuccessful. The figure 1s characterized by a dramatically short period of preclinical phase. Conclusion drawn from these studies is the fact that the success of surgery primarily is affected by astrocytomas type and its localization. In the presented analysis it is clearly shown that in a short period of preclinical phase treatment was required. When patient in an advanced stage see neurosurgeon, the chances of cure diminish considerably. Therefore it is irnportant to quickly give the initial diagnosis based on symptoms even if they su"]
